You might find the link below a good resource for facilitating discussions you plan on having with your teen on guidelines for using the electronic device you purchased as a holiday gift for him/her. Even if you don’t use the posted material, what you find might enhance that all-important conversation.

The vision of the organization called A Platform for Good (PFG) is:
“to start a dialogue about what it means to participate responsibly in a digital world. While recognizing the potential risks, we will celebrate technology as a vehicle for opportunity and social change. We hope to achieve this goal by providing parents and teachers with the resources to learn about and interact with new technologies, and by giving teens the ability to engage and teach their peers, family members, and educators. Through this approach, we hope to encourage good digital citizenship, responsible online behavior, and the use of technology for positive change and making a difference.” (http://www.aplatformforgood.org/)

Because the internet continues to play an increasing role in the sharing and acquisition of information, students are provided a balance between:
– learning how to tell if an internet site or electronic
resource is accurate, useful, or safe
– having sites that contain accurate information and
good quality materials provided for them
Round Rock ISD, as well as each individual campus, provides online resources for teachers, students, and parents to use. These electronic resources are excellent tools for research and learning enrichment. Please encourage your children to use them.
Because they are fee-based, you will need to enter a password (which cannot be made openly available here). Visit your campus library for a copy of the log-in information that is specific for your campus.
The district web page with links for each Campus Library Research Resources for the entire district is located at
Do you want to stay informed about your child’s report card grades, attendance, class schedule, and student progress?
If so, be sure to sign up for the district’s Home Access Center. You can sign up online or by going to your child’s campus and talking to the Home Access Campus Coordinator. You must have proper identification, such as a driver’s license, and sign the “Home Access Center Use Agreement.”
If you are a high school student you will be given your user name and password for the Home Access Center at school after you have signed the “Home Access Center Use Agreement.”
It is important for parents and students to keep the user names and password secure at all times to avoid anyone else from accessing your information. For more information on the Home Access Center and to register online, visit http://www.roundrockisd.org/Index.aspx?page=1730.
